Amaka’s believes that Eugene is not caring. She blames his strictness for his daughter, Kambili’s domestic deficiencies. Amaka disapproves of Eugene’s relationship with Papa-Nnukwu. She is marvelled that a man who is generous and loving to many people can at the same time be cruel. She finds Eugene’s behaviour appealing sometimes and repulsive at other times. However, given his generosity towards the funeral of his father, she sees his behaviour as positively mitigating and she confesses that Eugene is not a bad man, really.
