Few candidates attempted this question. Some of them mixed it up with the inaugural meeting of the boys at the beginning of the novel.
The following points should be well developed by the candidates:
- Ralph and Jack’s retreat from the mountain search convinced that they had seen a beast.
- Jack’s effort to undermine Ralph’s authority, thereby, laying the ground for secession.
- Jack’s portrayal of Ralph as a coward and someone not worthy of being a chief.
- Jack’s announcement of his intention to hunt alone and invitation to whoever wants to hunt with him to come along.
Candidates’ performance was fair.
