Observation
This was a popular question. Many of the candidates were able to highlight Manfred’s greed for power but their answers were not detailed. They could not relate his actions towards acquiring power of throne.
The following points were expected from the candidates:
* Manfred’s usurpation of the Castle of Otranto.
* Manfred’s scheming to hold on to the castle in perpetuity through marriage ties.
* His ill-treatment of Theodore whom he sees as a threat.
* Manfred’s defiance of the prophecy and continuing scheme.
* The fulfilment of the prophecy leading to the loss of his children and the castle.
Candidates’ performance in this question was fair.
