OBSERVATION
Simon is quite different in character from other boys. He sees things clearly. His presence reveals the truth about certain events of the plot. He keeps the little boys happy. Others do not believe his insight about the beast. The plot is sustained by his indefatigable spirit. He is not a coward. He releases the parachute and its captive into the sea. He destroys the evidence that there is no beast. His death sets in motion the savage enterprise of eliminating civilisation, openness and democracy.
Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was poor.
