Question 2
DELE CHARLEY: The Blood of a Stranger
Consider the view that tradition triumphs in the play.
Observation
A good number of candidates answered this question. Many of them gave mere narrations and wrote generally on traditions in the text; they could not link it to how it triumphs in the play.
The required answers should include:
* The people’s adherence to custom or tradition.
* The three stalwarts of the people’s culture or tradition and their differences/rivalry.
* The effect of the conflict among the three characters: Kindo, Soko and Maligu.
* Whitehead’s mission and its failure.
* The triumph of custom or traditions in the killings in the shrine and Kindo’s banishment.
Candidates’ performance was fair.
