Candidates' Weakness
The Chief Examiner observed that the candidates’ showed weaknesses in the following
areas:
- Omission of units and failure to give state answers in monetary value as required.
- Non adherence to rubrics
- Approximations as well as premature approximations.
- Poor interpretation of questions and inability to apply mathematical principles correctly.
- Inadequate knowledge of Bearing and Circle Geometry.
- Inadequate knowledge of Ratio, Proportions and Rates
- Inadequate knowledge of Probability
- Too much dependence on the use of Calculators and hence omitted essential workings.
- Spending too much time on part (a) and hence, they could not complete part (b).

SUGGESTED REMEDIES
The Chief Examiner suggested that to overcome the challenges stated, the following remedies should be considered:
- Candidates should endeavor to pay more attention to diagrams related topics especially bearing, circle geometry and graphs.
- Candidates’ should be encouraged to read questions carefully and understand
their requirements before attempting them.
- Candidates are encouraged to cover the examination syllabus while preparing for examination so as to enhance performance.
- Parents/Guidance should provide their children/wards with modern textbooks.
- Candidates should devote more time to learning necessary principles, as well as solving mathematical problems.
- Candidates should be encouraged to read questions carefully and understand
their requirements before attempting them.
