Candidates' performance in question 3 was poor. They failed to supply the technical names of the piano pedals and also define a piano concerto. Their abysmal performance denied them of the total mark for the question.
Some of the expected answers are:
(a) (i)Damper pedal, sustaining pedal, soft pedal (una corda).
(ii) Damper pedal - It raises the damper from the strings by allowing them to vibrate sympathetically when the piano is played. Sustaining pedal - It locks the dampers on certain notes, allowing them to ring out while the notes are played Soft pedal - It is used to soften the sound and also offers a change - of quality, a less rich and dryer sound.
(b) (i)A solo performance for the piano, accompanied by the orchestra.
