Candidates performed poorly in this question to the extent that some even scored outright zero.Candidates were not able to state the major difference between the trumpet mouthpiece and that of the saxophone. Not only that, they also failed to mention the two brass instruments that do not have valve while only few candidates were able to identify the instrument in the (c) part. Candidates failed to name the parts labeled (i) - (iv) on the diagram. Some of the expected answers were:
(a) The trumpet mouth-piece does not make use of the reed while the saxophone mouth- piece produces sound with the aid of the reed
(b)        Bulge, Trombone (slide).
                    (c)          (i)      Saxophone.
