This question was not well attempted by the candidates. The few candidates that attempted it showed poor knowledge of music in the diaspora. They could not give the required points, which caused them to lose some marks.

Candidates should have responded to the question thus:

(a)    Electric guitars (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar)
        Keyboards (piano, electric piano, synthesizers), voice
        Percussion (drum-set, tom-tom, e.t.c.

(b)    It is drawn largely from Black, folk, country and Western music

• Nonsense syllables
• Repeated chants, e.g. Yeah! Yeah!
