Observation
This question was popular among the candidates. Unfortunately, most of them could not differentiate between negative and positive stencils. Other candidates also mixed up the sequence of the steps involved in stencilling. These earned the candidates poor marks. Candidates were expected to provide the following answers to the question:
(a) A thin sheet of paper, plastic or metal from which a pattern or design is cut out for reproduction on other surfaces.
OR
A design cut on cardboard or paper for reproduction on other surfaces.
(b) (i) Positive stencil
(ii) Negative stencil
(iii) Multiple stencils
(c) Steps involved in stenciling
(i) Select the materials
(ii) Construct/draw the design
(iii) Identify the placement of the ties
(iv) Cut out the design with a sharp instrument
(v) If paper is used, give it a protective coating to make it stronger and less absorbent.
