Lack of understanding of important concepts
A major weakness that was obvious was lack of understanding of important concepts in the subject. This is attributable to the fact that most of the candidates could not access relevant textbooks at the secondary level and they also lack competent teachers of the subject.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES TO OVERCOME CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

(1) Candidates should improve their reading habits. Search for books could be combined with online resources.

(2) Teachers with the basic knowledge in painting and decorating should be employed to teach the subject in schools.

(3) Recommended textbook should be bought for use in schools, such as:

(i) Painting and Decorating (An information manual).

(ii) Painting and Decorating Handbook.
