Observation

This question was attempted by few candidates and their performance was poor.  In part (a) candidates could not adequately give examples of floor activities in gymnastics.  In part (b) candidates correctly mentioned gymnastic activities that can be performed on a vaulting box. In part (c) candidates could not correctly outline the procedure for performing cartwheel in gymnastics.  In part (d) candiates could not correctly outline the procedure for performing headstand in gymnastics.
However, the expected answers were as follows:

  • followed by landing on the second palm with the legs in their air spread apart
  • followed by landing on the first leg
  • followed by landing on the second leg in an astride position    
  • performer stand astride with arms raised upward                                                          

 (d)      Procedure for performing headstand in gymnastics

  • performer places the hands and forehead on the mat
  • the legs are raised up one at a time
  • the back is arched
  • the toes are pointed upward
  • performer maintains erect position with hands supporting the head at the back.
  • swing both legs over to land in standing position
