    5.  (a)(i) List three officials used in a basketball game.     [3 marks]

    (ii)  Give two instances when time-out is called during the game of basketball.   [2 marks]

    (b) State five service rules in the game of volleyball.          [5 marks]

    (c) State five rules that affect the goalkeeper in the game of hockey.     [5 marks]

    (d)    State:

    1. three instances when a ball is considered dead during a handball game;  [3 marks]
    2. two instances for throw-off in a handball game.       [2 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was very poor. 

In part (a) (i) candidates correctly listed officials used in a basketball game and In (ii) candidate could not correctly give instances when time-out is called during the game of basketball.

In part (b) candidates correctly stated service rules in the game of volleyball. 

In part (c) candidates could not state rules that affect the goalkeeper in the game of hockey.

In part (d) (i) and (ii) candidates correctly stated instances when a ball is considered dead during  a handball game.

(b)  SERVICE RULES IN THE GAME OF VOLLEBALL   
-          service must be delivered within the service area
-           to deliver service the ball must be thrown up/toss
-           service must follow order of rotation
-           during service, the ball must be hit onece
-           the foot must not the base line/explained
-           service must be delivered within 8 seconds after the whistle
-           the served ball must cross the net between the two antennae
-           the serve ball must land within the opponent’s court.

(c)  RULES THAT AFFECT THE GOALKEEPER IN THE GAME OF HOCKEY

A goalkeeper
-           should not undercut the ball
-           should not hit the ball dangerously
-           should not use back stick/use round surface of the stick
-           should not lie on the ball
-           should not take part in the game without stick in the hand
-           should avoid pushing, charging or trapping at opponent
-           must not move before a penalty stroke is taken
-           should not hold, lift, strike or interfere with on opponent stick
-           should only touch the ball within his goal area

(d) (i)   INSTANCES A BALL IS CONSIDERED DEAD DURING A HANDBALL GAME
-           when the ball goes out of play
-           after the referee’s signal for an injury/disturbance/explained
-           when a goal is scored
-           when the referee’s signal his whistle for an infringement
-           during the half time
-           at the end of the game.
(d)  (ii)   INSTANCES FOR THROW-OFF IN A HANDBALL GAME  

  •       It is used to start the game     
  •       At the beginning/start of the second half
