Question 1
(a) What is a projectile?
(b) Give the reason why the horizontal component of the velocity of a projectile
remains the same at every point of its flight.
Observation
This was a popular question among the candidates and it was fairly well attempted. However, few candidates could not account for the reason why the horizontal component of the velocity of a projectile remains constant throughout its journey. Through their responses showed that, they were not totally ignorant of the answer.
The expected answers are:
1(a). An object/ A body thrown/projected into the air and left to move under the influence of gravity (only).
(b) The acceleration of free fall due to gravity/(g) does not act in the horizontal direction.
