Physics Paper 3A WASSCE (SC), 2021

General Comments

The standard of the papers (Alternative A and B) compared favourably with previous years. The paper tested candidate’s ability to use simple apparatus to generate data, carry out simple manipulation of the data obtained, to plot and interpret graph. Short structured questions were also provided to test candidate’s strength in the theoretical principles of the experiment. The performance separates candidates into high, average and low achievers. Generally, the performance of candidates was fair.

The rubrics were clear and direct. The marking schemes were adequate with no ambiguity. The various domains of assessment were adequately covered. These include candidates’ ability to:

  • Set-up simple experiment
  • Carry out the experimental procedure
  • Show understanding of the theoretical background behind the experiments
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Make necessary deductions from the experiments.

The candidates’ raw mean score of 32 out of 50 and a standard deviation of 08.06 with a candidature of 759,232 indicate a high performance than that of WASSCE for School Candidates 2020, when a raw mean score of 31 out of 50 marks and a standard deviation of 09.85 with a candidature of 749752 was recorded.
