Candidates were expected to:
- copy the given views correctly;
- draw the square pipe □30 in end elevation;
- draw the cone and square pipe in elevation;
- draw the cone and square pipe in plan;
- divide the side of the square pipe in the end view into a number of parts;
- project the divisions horizontally to the side of cone in elevation and vertically down to plan;
- draw the concentric circles;
- draw end view of the square pipe in the plan and project the divisions from the end view in elevation;
- project horizontal lines from the end elevation in plan to intersect concentric circles;
- draw curves of intersection in plan;
- draw curves of interpenetration in elevation;
- draw the perimeter (QQ) of the square pipe;
- transfer the divisions on the square pipe to each side of the perimeter;
- draw the corresponding ordinates at the division points from plan or elevation;
- join the ends of ordinates into smooth curves;
- define the corners of the square pipe;
- use PQ as seam;
- draw neatly.
