Explain any five of the following art terms:
- medium;
- two - dimensional;
- mixed - media;
- style;
- print;
- sketch book.
Observation
Candidates performance was good. The question was attempted by most of the candidates. Though, a few found it difficult to explain the term style and print. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
- - The material used to create a work of art. E.g. pencil, crayon, pastel, oil, clay, bronze etc.
- - The solvent which carries pigments in suspension in paint. E.g. linseed oil (oil paints), egg (tempera), water (gouache).
- - A work of art that has only height and width. E.g. painting, textiles, graphics, drawings.
- - The use of more than one medium in the creation of an artwork. E.g. water colour and pastel, ink and water colour, etc.
- - A distinctive and personalized way of expressing ideas in art.
- - The distinctive characteristics contained in the works of art of a person, period of time or geographic location.
- - An image that is transferred from a prepared surface; (block, plate or screen) to fabric, paper, metal etc.
- - A pad of drawing paper on which artistic ideas are sketched and refined.
- - A number of drawing papers bond together on which the immediate feelings or ideas of the artist are quickly drawn.
