  1. Highlight two importances of the ancient Egyptian paintings.
  2. State three ways in which ancient Egyptian painters portrayed the human figures.

Observation

A large number of candidates attempted the question. The candidates performed below average. They were expected to respond to the question in this manner:

 

    • For recording everyday’s scenes.
    • They were created to honour the dead.
    • They were created to ensure a pleasant transition to the afterlife.
    • They were created for the decoration of the walls of the pyramids.
    • They were created for the decoration of life and achievements of the Pharaohs.
    • For symbolic expression.
    • For recording stories.
    • Man represented as a complete one with a full and happy life after life.
    • Figures portrayed for example as harvesters and cattle rearers.
    • They are flat.
    • Heads and feet in profile.
    • Frontal torso.
    • Female figures are represented in lighter colours.
    • Male figures are represented in darker colours.
    • Sizes of figures are determined by status of the figure being represented.
    • The figure of the king is usually represented bigger than any other.
    • Frontal eyes.
