Observation

Candidates that attempted this question did not use colours as expected in which to their average performance. The candidates were expected to answer in the following way:

A.        DRAWING              

(i)         Effective drawing of figures and objects on a busy market day.                           
(ii)        Appropriate use of proportions and perspective depicting a busy market day
in a suitable background.                                                                               

B.        COMPOSITION      
(i)         Skillful arrangement of all elements in the composition in gouache.
(ii)        Representation of right mood of the people at a busy market day.   

(iii)       Judicious use of space (at least three quarters of the available space).                    

                                                                                                           
C.        COLOUR                 

(i)         Choice of colours that contrast and harmonize.                                             

(ii)        Effective mixture, application and distribution of colours.                           

(iii)       Ability to show tones and direction of lights on all the objects.                   

D.        INTERPRETATION          

(i)         Correct and pleasing representation of the theme in gouache painting.        

E.        ORIGINALITY                   

(i)         Personalized style and overall visual effect in the composition.
