Question 3
A male model, dressed in shorts and a T-shirt is sitting on an armchair. He looks at something on the floor in front of him, resting his right hand on the armchair, while the left hand is on his left thigh. His left leg is slightly bent, while the right is stretched outwards.
Draw the model as posed.
Observation
The question was attempted by few candidates. Few of the candidates did well in drawing the seated figure. While, some could not represent the models left hand raised in support of his head and his right hand holding a pen attempting to write. Candidates found the composition difficult to draw. Hence, the poor performance by the candidates. The following points were expected from the candidates to obtain the maximum marks:
1. DRAWING QUALITY
(a) Accurate drawing of a male model dressed in a T-shirt and shorts sitting on an armchair.
(b) Accurate drawing of the model looking at something in front of him.
(c) Accurate drawing of the model’s right hand on the armchair and the left hand on his left thigh.
(d) Accurate drawing of the left leg slightly bent and the right leg stretched forward.
2. TONE/COLOUR
(a) Effective shading to depict the male model sitting on an armchair.
(b) Accurate indication of the source of light in the composition.
(c) Ability to create the correct feeling in the composition.
3. COMPOSITION
(a) Centrality of the composition on the paper.
(b) Balanced pose of the male model according to instruction.
(c) Use of paper to advantage (at least ¾ of the paper).
(d) Indication of background and baseline.
4. ORIGINALITY
(a) Showing effective drawing skill and personalized style.
(b) Showing effective use of art materials (colour, pencil, charcoal pen and ink).
