                      This  question was very popular among the candidates, but the performance of most of  the candidates was poor. The poor performance was probably as a result of  misinterpretation of the question. Candidates concentrated on the history of  the pre-historic man, instead of the description of his art. This wrong  approach led to a great loss of obtainable marks. 
                        Candidates  should have responded to the question by explaining the following points: 
                          Art of the pre-historic man 
                        
                          - Paintings were natural;  the human figures were in silhouette, while the animals were made bigger and  realistic.
 
                          - The techniques of  drawing and painting were simple outline and detailed shading.
 
                          - Human figures were  portrayed in simple forms.
 
                          - The paintings were done  in the caves.
 
                          - The animals were drawn  or painted in profile.
 
                          - Different earth colours  were mixed with animal fat and used as paint.
 
                          - Black was obtained from  charcoal and white from kaolin.
 
                          - Flint tools were used  in cutting outlines of animal on rock surfaces.
 
                          - Pecking of outline or  whole picture is another technique used by pre-historic man.
 
                          - Paintings and  engravings were superimposed and juxtaposed.
 
                          - Sculptures were in low  relief and also in the round.
