Weakness/Remedies

The weaknesses generally observed among the candidates include:

  •  Poor spelling of technical terms;
  • Poor drawing containing shallow details made with blunt pencil
  • Making of drawings which had no titles, no magnification and did not conform to size specifications.
  • Unruled guidelines and non-horizontal labels;
  • Use of plural labels for single guide lines e.g. eyes at the end of a single guideline indicating one eye;
  • Writing out the questions in the answer booklet before answering them;
  • Mixing up the numbering of questions making scoring of answers difficult;
  • Presenting answer to questions in bullet form;
  • Poor performance on the question on sewage and refuse.
  • Inability to make proper observations and inference, the candidates seemed to be writing based on theoretical knowledge;
  • Manifestation of poor practical skills and poor exposure to practical classes.

        The following remedies were proffered to overcome these weaknesses:
          Teachers should:

  •  Engage candidates in spelling drills to ensure that candidates master the proper spelling of technical terms;
  • Endeavour to complete the syllabus before the onset of the examinations;
  • Engage the candidates in practical classes not waiting till the instructions for practicals are out before exposing the candidates to the laboratories.
  •           Students should:

    •  read widely before the onset of the examinations;
    • arrange their answers in an orderly manner in the examinations.
