The following shortcomings were observed from the candidates’ response.

• Mis-interpretation of question
• Production of poor sketches
• Confusion of certain terms such as mass concrete and reinforced concrete.

To overcome these weaknesses, candidates should be taught on the use of sketches in answering questions.  Also, regular site visitation (which will enable them to see the practical aspect of building construction) should be encouraged.
