Describe the problems faced by Muhammad Bello in the administration of the Sokoto Caliphate.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observation

This question was unpopular.  A handful candidates that attempted this question dwelt mostly on the factors leading to the creation of Sokoto Caliphate and brushing aside the demands of the question.  To score high
marks, the candidates were expected to describe the following problems:

(i)  his appointment attracted sharp criticisms and apathy;

(ii) the problem of uniting and reintegrating the various groups in the Caliphate – the Fulani, Hausa, etc.

(iii) the task of making the emirates to recognize the over lordship of Sokoto;

(iv) opposition from neighbouring kingdoms e.g. Borno;

(v) eradication of all the evils of the pre-jihad Hausaland e.g. oppression of the poor; etc.
