Highlight any five reasons for the need to make the study of West African history compulsory in Nigerian schools.

Observation

This question was popular among the candidates and those who attempted it performed poorly. It required the candidates to point out the need to make West African history compulsory in Nigerian schools. However, very few could raise the fundamental reasons such as tolerance among West Africans, dispel white superiority and employment. Candidates dwelt more on discovery of West African past, their roots and civilization and scored low marks. Specifically, the candidates were expected to state the following points.

  1. It will help students to discover West Africa’s past.

  10. It will teach our students moral values.
  11. They will be able to dispel the idea that West Africa had no history before the coming of Europeans.
