  1. (a)  Explain four factors affecting the use of energy.

    (b) State four advantages of energy management.

Observation

The candidates misinterpreted the factors affecting the use of energy for work simplification.

The question on advantages of energy management was very well answered.

The required answers to the questions are as follows:

6(a)     Factors affecting the use of energy

  • Age- age determines how much energy is available to accomplish a task
  • Physical capability -  physically handicapped person will have to put in money energy to accomplish a task
  • Health – an invalid has less energy to perform a task than someone who is healthy.
  • Attitude to work – someone who has a negative attitude to a specific task may put in more energy to accomplish it
  • Emotions – someone who has negative feelings towards a task may feel bored performing it
  • Knowledge: If one has a proper understanding of the task at hand, one is likely to conserve energy
  • Equipment: Using the right tools make work easier to accomplish
  • Skill: One who has the skill to perform a task will likely use less energy to accomplish it.
  • Posture: good standing, sitting and working postures enhance the use of energy.
  • The worker’s clothing: comfortable and suitable work cloths minimize the amount of energy needed to accomplish a task.

6(b)     Advantages of energy management

  • Conserves energy for the other tasks
  • Helps to increase the workers interest in a given task
  • Eliminates fatigue
  • Helps to minimise the amount of time spent on a given task
  • Helps to reduce or eliminate unnecessary movements when working
  • Makes the worker carry out a given task in the best possible way
  • Reduces frustration
