Many of the candidates lacked the ability of interpreting questions thus
they gave answers out of context while others merely narrated the content
of the texts. This shows that candidates failed to study the prescribed
texts, and also lacked the basic skills of appreciating Literature.
Candidates' performance in poetry was generally poor.

   Suggested Remedies The stakeholders in education should encourage the candidates to
read by providing the prescribed texts in the libraries. The private
candidates should also endeavour to buy and study the prescribed
texts. Qualified teachers should be employed to teach Literature-In-
English. Teachers should attend training programmes such as
seminars and workshops to improve their teaching skills. The reading culture is dwindling, parents and teachers should
inculcate the habit of reading in the children from early stage.
