                      The sketch below shows a catch plate in use when turning between centres.
                       (a)       (i)         State the difference between a tap and a die;
                                 (ii) State the use of a die nut.
                       (b)      With the aid of a sketch, describe how the hand tool is used in cutting external thread on                                    the bench.
                                   (i) mandrel;
                                   (ii) collet.
                                   (iii) draw spike;
                       (c)        With the aid of a sketch, show a micrometer reading of 12.75 mm.

OBSERVATION

Most of the candidates who attempted this question could not state the Differences between a tap and a die as required in part (a) (i) of the question. The difference between a tap and a die is that a tap is used for cutting internal thread while a die is used for cutting external thread.
