(a) Mention the greatest violin player in the classical period.

(b) State the four open strings of the violin.

(c) Notate the four open strings stated in (b) above on the treble stave.

(d) Name the clef that is usually used for the violin in the string quartet.

(e) Draw the clef in (d) above on a staff.



Candidates’ responses to this question were remarkable, though some candidates were not able to notate correctly and this caused them to have low performance in the question. The following points should have been highlighted in their responses for them to score high marks:
