(a)    With reference to Dead March in Saul by G.F Handel,

(i) In which period in Western music history did the composer live?

(ii)  Mention any three contemporary of the composer;

(b)    quote the opening 4 bars (melody only) of the music;
(c)     on what occasion is the music usually performed?
(d)     state the form of the music.

Or

With reference to Choba Nwa-nnem (Igbo folksong) arranged by Elsa Toffolon and Meki Nzewi,

(a)  State the nationalities of :

(i) Elsa Toffolon;

{Meki Nzewi

(b) Suggest any two voices for which the vocal line is best suited.

(c)(i)  Mention the rhythmic device used in the bar quoted above.
   (ii)  Identify the chords used in the quotation in 2(c) (i) above.

(d) Comment on the accompaniment technique used.

(e) Write a brief summary of the story line behind the composition

Observation

IAs usual, most candidates failed to acquire and study the setpieces for question 2 and as a result totally avoided answering  the question (though compulsory). 

This, however, negatively affected their overall performance/marks scored.

Candidates are advised to always ensure that they study the set-pieces while preparing for the examinations.
