Answer one question only from this section either Building or Mechanical Drawing.

MECHANICAL DRAWING '(OPTIONAL)
[70 Marks)

  1. The details of a unit of a fuller machine are shown in first angle projection

below. The parts are assembled with a space. of 12 mm between surfaces ~ andK.

(a) Draw, to a scale of 1 : 1, the
(i)         sectional elevation on q _ q;
(ii)        plan;
(iii)   end elevation in the direction of arrow x

(b) Show one hexagonal nut in at least one of the views

Note: (Assume suitable dimensions where necessary)

Observation
This is a practical Mechanical question. The best approach is for candidates to make a rough sketch of the object so that it would assist in visualizing the . assembled parts. The views are then projected as required.
The solution must be drawn:
(i)  using the given dimensions;
(ii)  within the given scale;
(iii)  using suitable lines;
(iv)  with good layouts;
(v)  showing hidden details.

The candidates who attempted the question showed remarkable strength in the areas noted above. However, poor visualization or inability to sketch the object first affected most of the candidates. The required solutions are shown below.
