(a)       Name four of each of the following:
            (i)         upholstery tools;
            (ii)        upholstery materials;

Figure 8 shows the sketch of a hand tool.  Use it to answer questions 2 (b)
(i) and 2 (b) (iii)

(b)    (i) Name the tool shown.
        (ii) Name the parts labelled W, X , Y and Z.
        (iii) state one specific use of the tool.
(c)      State four market sizes of timber.

Observation

Most candidates were able to:
-            name the upholstery tools and materials;
-            State the market sizes of timber.

However, they were unable to:
- name the given hand tool and its parts;
- state the specific use of the tool.

The expected response to question 2 is as given below:
(a) (i) Upholstery tools – pair of scissors/shears, hammer, Panel saw, sewing machine, tack hammer, pin, needle, tack remover, ripping chisel, stalper/staple gun, webbing stretcher.

(ii) Upholstery materials: Plywood or hard board, canvas, leather, metal, raffia, seasgrass, cane, rubberized webbing, jute webbing, tension spring, no-sag wire spring, rubber diaphragm, fabrics or textiles, coconut fibre, horse hair, cotton, kapok, foam plastics, Hessian/urlap, calico or grey baft, hemptwine webbing tacks, contact adhesive/glue, clip, tapestery, wood, thread.

(b) (i) Firmer gouge/carving gouge
(ii) W = Ground surface or bevelled surface, Y = Ferrule,
X = Handle, Z = Blade
(iii) Fluting, reeding, grooving, general carving, cleansing convex curves.
