Christian Religious Studies Paper 2 WASSCE (SC), 2021

Question 3

  1. Outline the role played by Jezebel in the death of Naboth.
  2. Give three reasons for which people are greedy

Observation

This question was popular among the candidates. Candidates were able to give a vivid recount of what transpired between Naboth, Ahab and Jezebel. The challenge some candidates had was trying to merge the contest between Elijah and Ahab on Mount Sinai. On the average, majority of those who attempted this question performed quite well in both parts. The points candidates gave included;

  1. Naboth the Jezreelite owned a vineyard near the palace of King Ahab.
  2. Ahab requested for Naboth’s vineyard to be used as a vegetable garden since it was near the palace.
  3. King Ahab was ready to give Naboth another land or pay for its value.
  4. But Naboth refused to give out the land since it was inherited from his father.
  5. Ahab went home very sad and angry and went to bed without food.
  6. Jezebel, the wife came home and enquired from Ahab why he was in a sad mood and would not eat.
  7. Ahab told her it was because of Naboth’s refusal to give him his vineyard.
  8. Jezebel asked Ahab if he was not truly the king of Israel, and she promised to collect the vineyard for him.
  9. Jezebel secretly wrote a letter in Ahab’s name accusing Naboth of cursing God and King Ahab.
  10. The letter which was sent to the elders in Jezreel stated that a fast should be held and Naboth be set on high among the people.
  11. And after the fast, two men should accuse Naboth of cursing the king and God so that he would be stoned to death.
  12. This was done and Naboth was finally stoned to death in his own field.
  13. As soon as Jezebel heard of the death of Naboth, she asked Ahab to go and take possession of the field.
