Observation

This question was attempted by few candidates. Few candidates answered Question 7(a) correctly. Poor performance of candidates also recorded in Question 7(b) and (c) as many could not explain how environment, hereditary and lifestyle affect health status.

The expected answers are as follows:

• Leukaemia/cancer of the blood;
• Haemophilia;
• Varicose vein/Pile

• Hypertension/High B.P/Heart attack;
• Coronary thrombosis;
• Stroke;
• Hypotension.

(c) How the following factors affect health status of an individual
(i) environment
- factors such as weather will vary the health condition positively or negatively.
- Living in healthy environment will promote development positively.
- A clean environment promotes good health.
- A dirty environment promotes ill health.                                                                                                                                            
(ii) heredity

• Inherited structural defects affect social life/ health status negatively.
• Inherited cellular defects cause sickle cell anaemia.
• Inherited Disease condition of the brain results to madness.            

      (iii) lifestyle

• Of smoking cigarettes may result in respiratory diseases/TB
• Of excessive alcohol intake leads to ulcer
• Of over feeding may lead to obesity  
• Of underfeeding may lead to ulcer / poor development.
