Observation

 

This question was a popular question and it was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good although, few of the candidates fumbled by writing international tournament, national tournaments, continental tournament, Olympic games, African youth championship, world youth championship, Australian Open (Tennis), relay race, hurdle race 1,500m race and 100 m race.  In part (b) many candidates performed well, few candidates went off the track by writing; to maintain our body, to prevent our body from fighting in sport avoid distraction, start from simple to complex, do not participate in any activity without a spotter and try to bandage injury as ways of preventing injuries during sporting activities.

The expected answers were as follows:

9 (a)     Type of tournaments

  •    single elimination/knock out/straight elimination
  •    double elimination
  •    round robin/league
  •    consolation
  •    ladder
  •    pyramid
  •    spider web
  •    funnel

 

(b)        Ways of preventing injuries during sporting activities

  •    proper conditioning and training before participating in physical activities
  •    need for adequate warm-up before competition to keep participant physically fit

 

    •    provision of proper and adequate facilities and equipment
    •    participants must keep to rules and regulations ascertain level of fitness to participate
    •    checking of sporting area regularly before use
    •    feeding athletes with balance diet
    •    using sports protective equipment
    •    adequate supervision of participants
