Candidate's Weakness and Remedies
A SUMMARY OF CANDIDATE’S WEAKNESSES
Those shortcomings observed on the candidates drawings were their:
- failure to adhere strictly to building specifications;
- inability to draw to a specified scale;
- poor dimensioning skills.
To overcome these weaknesses, candidates should be well grounded in the rudiments of technical drawing which includes:
- adherence to Building Specifications: during class instruction, the subject teacher needs to stress both the legal and financial implications of non-adherence to specifications in the construction industry.
- producing views to specified scales: students are to be helped to become well acquinted with the various scales used for producing architectural drawings. Also they should be given ample graded assignment on scaling.
- skills of dimensioning technique: the subject teacher should help the students acquire and develop skills in the art of dimensioning by posting a chart illustrating various dimensioning techniques in a conspicuous place in their drawing studio, giving them frequent graded drawing assignments or projects involving dimensioning, use of symbols illustrating building materials and enforcing students possession of the recommended technical or architectural drawing textbooks.
