Observation

Most candidates were able to:

• state three desirable qualities of a wet concrete:
• state one functional requirement of an external door.

However, some of them failed to:

• sketch the ridge detail of a double-pitched roof and indicate the following parts:
• ridge cap;
• rafter;
• roof covering. 

The expected response to question 2 (b)is as given below:

(a)        Three factors to be considered before erecting a timbering system:
Safety/danger to the life of operatives.
Risk of damage to adjoining properties.
Damage to any work in the trench.
The ease of dismantling.
The depth of excavation.
Extra labour used in getting earth out from the trench.
Nature of the subsoil.
