Christian Religious Studies Paper 2 WASSCE (SC), 2016

Question 1

(EXODUS 3:1-22; 4:1- 17)

(a) Describe how Moses responded to God's call.

(b) State three reasons why people refuse to accept leadership roles.

Observation

This question was popular among candidates. In Part (a), the students were required to point out how Moses responded to God's Call, However, majority of the candidates started their narration from the birth of Moses, some others placed emphasis on how Moses ran away from Egypt when he murdered an Egyptian who was maltreating an Israelites, while some others focused their strength on the events of the burning bush in Mount Horeb thereby loosing lot of time on irrelevant points.

For example, some points are listed below to guide how candidates were expected to have outlined their points:

i. Moses encountered God in a bush at Mount Horeb/ Sinai, while tending the flocks of his father in-law, Jethro.

ii. God said He had seen and heard the afflictions of the Israelites in Egypt and had come down to deliver them.

iii. He then charged Moses to go to Pharaoh to bring the Israelites out of bondage to Canaan, the Promised Land.

iv. Moses shirked from the task saying "who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?"

v. In response to his excuse of inadequacy, God gave Moses the assurance that He would be with him.

vi. He also gave him a sign that He would bring the people back to Mt. Horeb to serve Him (God)

In part (b), candidates performed above average in that, they were able to draw their answers from the story they had earlier narrated in part (a).

The points candidates were expected to have written included:

i. Lack of confidence / trust/fear of failure/ low self-esteem

ii. Fear of being criticized

iii. Natural temperament e.g. disinterest/ lack of commitment

iv. Lack of knowledge / expertise

v. Lack of good motivation e.g. prospects of the job, wages and salaries etc.

vi. Physical challenges e.g. accessibility/location of job - rural or urban

vii. Lack of vision/ mission. Etc
