Candidates’ major weaknesses were exhibited as follows:
- Incorrect spelling;
- Inability to express ideas correctly;
- State the general procedures for taking cash payment in a catering establishment;
- State qualities of a supervisor in a catering establishment;
- Give the meaning of the following terms used in the hospitality industry: check-in, reservation, forecast, walk-in;
- State points to consider when selecting and serving beverages;
- Highlight characteristics of alcoholic beverages;
- List the types of game;
- Give examples of each type of game;
- Itemise types of chicken;
- List general service equipment found in a restaurant.

In order to overcome the weaknesses highlighted above:
- Teachers should endeavour to consult different Catering textbooks before giving lectures;
- Ensure a comprehensive teaching of the topics in the syllabus;
- They should be creative and innovative in their teaching methods;
- Candidates should be exposed to catering equipment and also visit catering establishments;
- Educational excursion should be organised by schools to catering establishments;
- Government schools and parents should encourage students to volunteer at standard catering establishments during holidays;
- Students should purchase all the needed textbooks especially the new edition as new topics keep surfacing yearly;
- Schools should endeavour to supply catering equipment to school laboratories to afford the students the opportunity to learn.
- Government should fund education more, revive school libraries and stock modern textbooks and e-books;
- Parents should monitor their wards performances and enrol in extra coaching classes if the need arises.
