(a)       List five objectives of citizenship education
(b)       highlight five ways citizens can be involved in community service

Observation

 

The performance of candidates who answered this question was impressive. They understood its demands. They were able to outline the objectives of citizenship education and how the study and knowledge of citizen education can better the life of citizens and the society at large. However, they limited their scope to just two aspects in the B part. First, how people participates in community service and secondly, how people participate in environmental sanitations. Some of the answers candidates highlighted in the B part include;

B. WAYS CITIZENS CAN BE INVOLVED IN COMMUNITY SERVICE

  1. By mobilising people to participate in the provision of social infrastructure/public utilities.
  2. By contributing in kind and cash to the provision of social infrastructure/utilities in society.e.g construction of public toilets, donation to orphanages, etc .
  3. By protecting public utilities e.g pipelines, transformers, public buildings,etc.
  4. By participating in environmental sanitation activities in society.e.g drainage of gutters, provision of waste bins etc.
  5. By promoting inter-religious/ inter-personal/ inter-communal harmony in society.
  6. By forming or participating in community policing/vigilante groups.
  7. By educating members of the community to be security conscious.
  8. By disseminating information about government programmes/policies/activities to solve societal problems e.g. human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, etc.
  9. By participating in political activities e.g. voting.
  10. By assisting law enforcement agencies in performing their duties.
