Question 2

(a)       Enumerate any three components of traffic regulations.
(b)       Highlight six traffic regulations pedestrians observe.

Observation

A large percentage of candidates attempted this question. It was discovered that candidates had problems mostly with the A part as they could not understand the meaning of the word “components of traffic regulations”. The B part was better answered as candidates could relate with their daily experiences and knowledge of rules and regulations they observe while crossing the road. It was a direct application question and the high scores in this part made up for the loss of mark candidates were unable to get in the A part. To those who had challenges in the B part, the fault could be traced to some of the candidates not understanding the word “pedestrians” hence, they started writing about safety precautions to be taken while driving. Below are ways candidates were expected to have answered the question;

A. COMPONENTS OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

  1. Road signs e.g no parking, one way etc.
  2. Road marks e,g zebra crossing, bumps etc.
  3. Traffic lights.
  4. Road maps

B. TRAFFIC REGULATIONS PEDESTRIANS OBSERVE

  1. Walking on the side of the road/pavements facing the oncoming vehicles.
  2. Crossing the road at designated Zebra crossing points.
  3. Using foot bridges where provided to cross the road.
  4. Not crossing the road in between moving vehicles.
  5. Not crossing the road when the pedestrian red-light is showing.
  6. Observing traffic light indications.
  7. Looking left and right before crossing the road.
  8. Not playing on the road.
