Observation
This question attracted lots of candidates and the performance of most candidates who answered it was good. However, performance was not generally good in 1(a) because their answers lack depth and understanding. Below are the points expected to have been given by the candidates.

- By producing responsible, well informed and self-reliant youths
- By enabling the citizens to develop positive attitudes and values which they need to function as relevant members of the society
- By making citizens to understand common problems associated with emerging issues of the society such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, cultism, etc and ways of solving such problems
- By providing opportunities to citizens to absorb and practice the basic norms of democratic culture
- By increasing the understanding and relevance of politics, governance and the civil society to the daily lives of the people
- By producing responsible citizens who will shun crimes and other anti-social behaviours.
