A. Consequences of Cultism in the society
- Promotion of violence in the society
- Breakdown of law and order/insecurity
- Disruption of academic activities/calendar
- Proliferation of arms in the society
- Moral decadence/promotion of negative values/value disorientation
- Increase in crime rate e.g. armed robbery, rape, kidnapping, etc.
- Increase in drug abuse and trafficking
- Spread of HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
- It leads to spiritual/mental problem among people engaged in it.
B. HINDRANCES TO THE ERADICATION OF CULTISM IN NIGERIA
- Corruption
- General economic hardship/poverty in society
- Irresponsible parenting/child upbringing
- Negative peer influence
- Involvement of some parents/guardians in cult activities
- Exposure to negative media influence e.g. violence/crime related films
- Strong commitment to oath of membership by cultists
- Ignorance of wards/parents/guidance and school administrators
- Support from some influential people in society/God-fatherism
- Ineffective/non-implementation of sanctions/punishment of cultists
- Bad leadership
