4  (a).  Explain the following terms as used  in textile production
- singeing
 
      (ii).       degumming
      (iii)       hacking
- felting
 - crocheting
 
  (b).      Give two examples each of the following groups of fibres
      (i) regenerated fibres.
      (ii) synthetic fibres.
      (iii) protein fibres.
      (c). State two  advantages of linen and polyester blend
      All  the students performed woefully in question 4. Only few students attempted the  question. They were expected to explain the following terms as used in textile  production as (i) Singeing: a process whereby a fabric is passed quickly over  gas flame to burn off little hairs sticking out of the surface of the fabric 
- Degumming : it is a process in the production of silk whereby the filaments are boiled remove sericin /gum
 - Hacking : it is a process in the production of linen whereby the linen fibres are combed to remove short fibres and form parallel lines with the long fibres.
 - Felting: it is the process of fusing fibres together using heat, pressure and moisture.
 - Crocheting: it is the process of inter- locking yarns or thread into loops using a special hook.
