(b) With the aid of two diagrams illustrate how to sew on a flat button.
(c) Explain the purpose of a shank.
OBSERVATION
The diagram and Explanation of the purpose of shank was not properly answered, which made the candidates to loose so much mark.
The expected answers are
Damages that may occur to buttons and buttonholes on a garment
• Buttons may become loose.
• Fabric covering buttons may become worn out.
• Unraveled button holes/Frayed buttonholes
• Buttonholes may wear out
• Buttons may tear off leaving a weakened area or hole
• Buttons may break
• Sew on loose button.
• Replace buttons (with or without fabric covering)
• For unraveled or worn out buttonholes, mend them by stitching over them with buttonhole stitch using matching thread.
Worn out buttonholes can be turned into bound buttonholes
