Candidates' Strength
Many candidates were able to demonstrate their strengths in the ability to
- State physical properties of wool;
- Suggest characteristics of fabrics suitable for babies’ clothing in the tropics;
- Draw pattern symbols that will help the candidate to lay out pattern pieces correctly on the fabric;
- Give reasons for introducing fullness in sleeves;
- State factors to consider when introducing fullness in sleeves;
- Give method each of arranging fullness in the following parts of a garment – waist of a blouse, elbow of a long sleeve, crown of a sleeve, princess line;
- Suggest ways of finishing the waistline of a skirt after arranging fullness;
- Enumerate sources of funding for a dressmakers’ shop;
- State factors to be considered when selecting a site for the shop;
- Suggest storage facilities to be used in the shop;
- Explain why the following factors should be considered when fixing prices of garments produced- electricity (source of energy), labour.
