Candidates' Weakness
Candidates’ weaknesses were observed as follow:
- Expression in simple and clear language;
- State the uses of the following sewing attachments- the zipper foot, the binder, hemmer foot;
- Mention parts of the sewing machine that set it in motion;
- Describe how to thread the sewing machine;
- Give examples of measuring tools used in the dressmaker’s shop;
- Differentiate between linen and wool fibre under the following- microscopic appearance, cost, strength when wet;
- Outline steps to follow in order to prepare pattern pieces for cutting out
- Sketch the front view of a blouse and indicate the following features- bishop sleeve, patched packet, mandarin collar, scalloped hem;
- Identify the principles of design in Fig. 1;
- Identify the element of design on the upper part of the bodice.
To overcome these weaknesses,
- Teachers should devote more time on practical aspect of the subject.
- Candidates should devote more time to their studies;
- Candidates should buy and read relevant textbooks;
- Candidates should be made to produce sample articles on each topic taught.
- Candidates should be made to always practice sketching of some related diagrams.
