Observation
In questions 3 (a) and (b), candidates were not able to answer correctly and scored low marks. The expected differences between tucks and box pleats include:
Tucks are small stitched folds which vary greatly in width. They are completely stitched along the whole length and are of equal distance away from the fold while box pleats are folds facing the opposite direction and allowed to hang free from a supporting band/bodice etc., or stitched along part of folds.
The differences between easing and shirring are as follows:
In easing, one row of gathering stitches is used while several rows of gathering stitches are used in shirring. Machine stitches or hand sewing needle are uses in easing while in shirring only machine stitches is used. Fullness formed is invisible in easing while in shirring it is visible.
In questions 3(c) and (d), candidates performed very well and scored high marks.
