Candidates knew what it was to write in a tabular form and this earned them marks. However, many of them did not quite state the differences in terms of storage space. None of the candidates knew what the arm of a machine is.

(b) Functions of the following parts of the sewing machine
- Arm – for lifting the sewing machine or for holding it
- Balance wheel – moves clockwise to make the needle move. For starting and stopping the machine.
- Throat plate – used as a guide for straight stitching
- Treat guide – Guides the needle thread from getting into the way of stitching and possibly tearing it.
- Presser bar lifter – this is for lifting and lowering the presser foot
(c) Brand names of the sewing machine
- Butterfly, Dove, Triumph, Lady Neechi, Phaff, Singer
- Sparta, Bernina, Phoenix, Brother, Toyota, Standard etc.
