Observation

The question was popular among the candidates and their performance was above average. However, some candidates drew only one rubber glove instead of a pair requested for in the question. Also, some failed to mention an appropriate function, especially in a roller where  candidates were referring to its use in house painting instead of its use as it apply to the subject. This made them loose substantial marks, they were expected to respond to the question thus:

(a)      (i)    Function of a roller:
 

• It is used to apply ink/pigment/paint on a stamp/wood block/lino for printing.
• It is used to achieve an even distribution of ink/paint/pigment on a surface.

(ii) Function of a tjanting:

• It is used to apply melted wax to fabric.
• It is used to form patterns/designs on a fabric.
• It is used to create a definite pattern/design on a fabric.
• It is used to create intricate lines on a fabric.

•  Function of a pair of rubber gloves:

• It is worn to prevent absorption and contact with chemicals.
• It is a protective tool against burns and stains.
• It is worn to stir chemicals in dye bath.
• It is worn to remove fabric from the dye bath.
• It is worn to spread fabric after dyeing.

(b)   Ways to preserve a tjanting:  

•    Wash thoroughly with hot water after use to remove excess wax.
•    Clean it with rag.
•    Apply grease to prevent rust.
•    Dry under shade to avoid melting of grease.
•   Keep in a box or shelf for safety.
•   Arrange and label properly.
